Abokado launched new Vegan Bacon (by THIS™ ) and Avo Breakfast Bagels in all 21 London stores this week following the big success of their Vegan Katsu which has stormed its way into the brand’s second bestselling product.
To date the London-based healthy eating chain has sold 20,000 game-changing Vegan Katsu Curry dishes (containing THIS™ ‘vegan’ chicken), equivalent to over 1.5 tonnes of vegan katsu.
As Veganuary draws to a close the vegan katsu hit number two in Abokado’s entire product sales, outselling long-standing bestsellers on the menu. The dish is so convincingly like chicken they have been receiving daily feedback from diners adamant they’ve been mis-sold the original chicken katsu.
Abokado MD Kara Alderin said the company was excited to be getting behind the growing trend of veganism and that their latest menu development was part of a long-term plant-based movement well beyond Veganuary.
She said: “Never before has a vegan dish hit number two in our bestsellers across the entire menu range. It is truly unprecedented and shows not only a definite and lasting change in eating habits but also the popularity of this game-changing vegan product.”
And she added: “As plant-based eating grows we are confident that our new vegan and avo bacon breakfast bagels will rival our current best-selling bacon alternative in our stores. It’s a super product for our customers, and we look forward to continuing to grow this category.”
Co-founder of THIS.uk said: "At THIS™ we aim to be the go-to plant-based brand for meat-lovers, so launching the UK’s first vegan bacon bagel with Abokado is a great way to make it even easier for our growing THIS™ tribe to enjoy our products. Abokado’s spin on the vegan katsu with our THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Goujons is a winning combo if you haven't tried it yet too, and I'm thrilled it’s so popular."

About THIS™
THIS™ Isn’t Bacon was awarded a Great Taste Award and one judge said THIS™ is “like methadone for ex-bacon loving vegetarians!”
THIS™ challenges legacy “plant-based meat” brands by targeting meat-reducers as opposed to purely vegans. With a core belief that meat-eaters shouldn’t have to compromise if they want to cut down on meat, the brand is bold, modern, & rebellious – without making judgement on consumers’ eating habits.
Set up by meat lovers, Andy Shovel and Pete Sharman, who successfully exited beef burger chain Chosen Bun. They channelled their in-depth knowledge of meat to create THIS™, the most realistic chicken and bacon meat-alternatives in the world. Following two years of research and development, partnering with world-leading texture scientists and flavourists, THIS™ mimics meat in taste, texture, appearance and smell, but without the ethical or environmental impact, instead using peas and soya beans as the base.
