World’s most convincing plant-based meat alternative THIS™ partners with Crosstown to create first ever plant-based bacon doughnut.
Creators of the most realistic plant-based bacon alternative in the world, UK company THIS™, have partnered with renowned London sourdough doughnut bakery Crosstown. Together, they've launched the world’s first vegan maple bacon & banana doughnut.
THIS™ Isn’t Bacon is so realistic it even managed to convince 25 food critics and food bloggers that they were eating real meat! Watch the video here:
We Tricked 25 Food Critics into eating Vegan Plant-Based Bacon & Chicken
The wacky doughnut features Crosstown’s award-winning vegan sourdough, dipped in homemade banana glaze, topped with maple THIS™ Isn’t Bacon and finished with Maldon sea salt.
THIS™ is a new plant-based meat alternative which tastes, looks and has the texture of actual meat.
Following two years of research and development, partnering with world-leading texture scientists and flavourists, THIS™ mimics meat in taste, texture, appearance and smell, but without the ethical or environmental impact of meat, instead using peas and soya beans as the base.
The Vegan Maple Bacon & Banana doughnut is the first dessert collaboration for THIS™, which launched in early 2019.
“We’d never imagined our food being used in the dessert category,” says Andy Shovel, THIS™ Co-founder. “Our partnership with Crosstown is the perfect way to branch out and explore the versatility of our plant-based meats. It’s also been great fun to work with a brand that shares our values.”
Known for their innovative flavour choices and options for vegans, they won the award for Best Vegan Doughnuts by PETA in 2018. Crosstown were thrilled to partner with THIS™.
“We really wanted to push the boundaries with THIS™ to create a unique eating experience that is innovative and, of course, delicious. We set ourselves a challenge to create something that no one had even considered. We are really excited for the launch and to hear the feedback,” said JP Then, Crosstown Co-founder.
The Vegan Maple Bacon & Banana doughnut is available as a limited-edition box of 6, via the Crosstown website & all sites from Friday-Sunday.
THIS™ doesn’t like tofu. Neither do they like any other squishy, dense or weirdly moist meat-alternatives. They make plant-based meat alternatives for meat lovers. Co-founders Andy Shovel and Pete Sharman actually co-founded and successfully exited a beef burger chain, Chosen Bun before they co-founded THIS™ in 2019. Along with their ‘Isn’t Chicken’ range, THIS™ has answered meat-reducers hung-over prayers: they’ve delivered plant-based ‘Isn’t Bacon’ this sizzles, smells like bacon and tastes like bacon.
Crosstown is an award-winning bakery in London. It's known for it’s sourdough doughnuts that are made by hand fresh 365 days of the year. The company was founded in 2014 by JP Then and Adam Wills.
